THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE THINK PAIR SQUARE TECHNIQUE IN THE TEACHING OF GERMAN READING SKILLS IN SMA NEGERI 5 PURWOREJO

Abstract


This study aimed to find out (1) the significant differences in the learning achievement of German reading skills between students of SMA Negeri 5 PurworejoGrade X, which teached through the Think Pair Square technique and which teached through the conventional technique, and (2) the effectiveness of the Think Pair Square technique in the teaching of German reading skills. This result was a quasi-experimental study. The data were collected through a pretest and a posttest. The sample was selected by means of the simple random sampling technique. The study involved two variabels, namely the use of the Think Pair Square technique as independent variable (X) and the German reading skills as the dependent variable (Y). The reliability was calculated using the K-R 20 formula and the coeffiecient was 0,817. The data were analyzed by means of the t-test. The result showed tobtained=3,838 > ttable= 2,000 at a significance level  and the effectiveness weight was 8,77%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Think Pair Square technique is more effective in the teaching of German reading skills.
