THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PORPE (PREDICT, ORGANIZE, REHEARSE, PRACTICE, EVALUATE) TECHNIQUE IN THE LEARNING OF READING SKILL IN GERMAN AMONG THE STUDENTS OF GRADE XI SMA NEGERI 1 NGAGLIK SLEMAN

Abstract


This research aimed to find (1) the differences in German reading skill of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngaglik Sleman between those who are taught using PORPE (Predict, Organize, Rehearse, Practice, Evaluate) techniques and conventional techniques, (2) the effectiveness of the use of PORPE (Predict, Organize, Rehearse, Practice, Evaluate) techniques for teaching German reading skill for Grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngaglik Sleman. This research is a quasi- experiment. The data were collected through a pretest and a posttest. The data were analyzed by means of the t-test. The result showed tobtained=4,685>ttable=2,009 at a significance level α = 0,05. This means that there is a difference in learning achievement German reading skills between the experimental class and the control class. The weight of the effectiveness of 8,3%. The average value of the post-test experimental class was 30,532 higher than the average value of the post-test control class is 29,500. So it can be concluded that the use of PORPE (Predict, Organize, Rehearse, Practice, Evaluate) techniques is effective in learning the German language skills of reading.
