THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE EXTENDING CONCEPT LANGUAGE THROUGH ACTIVITIES (ECOLA) TECHNIQUE FOR THE GERMAN READING SKILLS FOR 10TH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 PENGASIH KULON PROGO

Abstract


This research aims to identify (1) the difference of academic achievement in the learning reading of  German, which is demonstrated by 10th grade students of SMA N 1 Pengasih Kulon Progo: between those who are taught by ECOLA (Extending Concept Through Language Activities) technique and those who are taught by conventional technique; and (2) effectiveness of ECOLA technique for German reading skill in 10th grade students of SMA N 1 Pengasih Kulon Progo. This research belongs to quasi experiment. The research design is pretest post-test control group design. Sample is taken by simple random sampling. Instrument validity employs content validity, construct validity, and item validity. Data analysis in this research employs T-test. The result of this research shows that the value of thounted = 2,647, which is greater than the value of ttable = 2,003 0,011<0,05 on the level of significance α = 0,05 with the value of significance is smaller than 0.05 and db=56. The Effectivennes Point is as much as 8.73%, so that it can be concluded that the use of ECOLA technique for German reading skill in 10th grade students of SMA N 1 Pengasih Kulon Progo is more effective than the use of conventional technique.
