THE EFFECTIVENESS OF “THINK PAIR SQUARE” TECHNIQUE IN THE LEARNING OF GERMAN READING SKILL FOR GRADE X STUDENTS IN SMA NEGERI 2 BANGUNTAPAN BANTUL
Abstract
The objectives of this study was to determine (1) the differences achievement in the learning of reading skill in German among the students grade X SMA N 2 Banguntapan Bantul taught using think-pair-square technique and the ones taught with conventional technique, (2) the effectiveness of think-pair-square technique in the learning of reading skill in German. This research is a quasi-experimental research with pre and post-test control group experimental design. The population in this study was the entire students of grade X SMA N 2 Banguntapan Bantul totaling 210 students. The sample was taken from grade X 4 as experimental class (31 students) and grade X 6 as control class (31 students) using simple random sampling. The data were obtained using reading skill test on German text. This study had two variables. The validity of the test was determined using product moment correlation test. The reliability was calculated with K-R 20 formula. The analysis of the data in this study was conducted using t-test. The results of the data showed that tobtained 4,787 was greater than ttable 2,000 with significance level of α=0,05 and df=60. It means that there was significance difference in the learning of reading skill in German achievement among the students grade X SMA N 2 Banguntapan Bantul in the experimental class and control class. The use of think-pair-square technique had 9,5% point of effectiveness. The average post-test scores of the experimental class was 31,81, which was greater than the ones of the i.e. 29,35. It can be concluded that the think-pair-square technique is more effective in the learning of reading skill in German in SMA N 2 Banguntapan Bantul.
