Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the Pomodoro technique on the attention span of Educational Technology students at Yogyakarta State University, class of 2023. The primary issue addressed is the low focus endurance among students amidst digital distractions, which adversely affects academic performance. This quantitative research employed a Pre-Experimental design with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest model. A sample of 30 students was selected using a purposive random sampling technique. The primary instrument used was the Modified d2 Performance Test to objectively measure performance scores, supported by questionnaires assessing Pomodoro technique compliance and attention span perception. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, Paired Sample T-tests, and Normalized Gain (N-gain) tests for effectiveness. The results indicated a significant increase in students' attention span following the Pomodoro intervention, evidenced by a rise in mean performance scores from 13.00 at pretest to 19.20 at posttest. The Paired Sample T-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the N-gain test categorized the level of effectiveness as Moderate. Supporting data from questionnaires confirmed high compliance among respondents (mean score of 4.21) and a significant perceived improvement in focus (mean score of 4.25). This study concludes that the Pomodoro technique is an effective time management strategy to enhance students' attention span in completing academic tasks.
