Samsul Hadi, Fakultas Teknik, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Abstract

THE USE OF DISCOVERY LEARNING AND PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING ON THE LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT OF SMK STUDENTS
Abstract
This research aims to reveal the improvement of students’ learning achievement in work health and safety in electrical installation material taught using the Discovery Learning (DL); (2) the improvement of students’ learning achievement after the same material was given using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL); and (3) the difference in the learning achievement between the students taught using the two different models if students prior knowledge and practice grade are controlled. This research was quasi-experimental. The subjects consisted two groups of control and experimental Electrical Engineering Program SMK3 Yogyakarta. The instrument were pretest, posttest, and practice grade. Data were analyzed using the ANACOVA. The research findings reveal that t=36.560, significance level 0.000, and “gain score” 0.410 which can be interpreted as the medium category in mastering concepts of students in DL. The research findings reveal that t=42.038, significance level 0.000, and “gain score” 0.556 which can also be interpreted as the medium category in PBL. There is a difference between the use of two different models on learning achievement with r=0.539, F=13.018, significance level 0.001, and the covariance contribution of 95.74%.
