Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) meningkatkan proses pembelajaran membaca permulaan melalui media big book, dan (2) mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan melalui media big book pada siswa kelas IA SD Negeri Nogopuro, Depok, Sleman. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi, catatan lapangan dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada pratindakan, banyak siswa tidak memperhatikan guru dan menolak ketika ditunjuk membaca. Pada siklus I, siswa mulai memperhatikan guru dan berani membaca meski dengan suara yang lemah. Pada siklus II, siswa sudah memperhatikan guru dan bersedia membaca di depan kelas secara individu dengan percaya diri. Nilai rata-rata kemampuan membaca permulaan pada pratindakan 62,38 meningkat menjadi 67,22 pada siklus I dan 78,66 pada siklus II. Persentase pencapaian kriteria keberhasilan mengalami peningkatan pada pratindakan sebesar 17,24% meningkat menjadi 34,48% pada siklus I dan 79,31% pada siklus II.

Abstract

This study aims: (1) to improve the early reading ability process with big book, and (2) to describe the increase of early reading ability with big book on first grade A class students in Nogopuro State Elementary School, Depok, Sleman. This study used observation, field note and test as the data collection techniques. The result of this study showed that in the first cycle, students began to pay attention and showed their brave to read although with low sound. In the second cycle, students had pay attention on the teacher and would to read in front of the classroom individually with confidence. The score was 62,38 in pre-action and becoming 67,22 in first cycle and becoming 78,66 in second cycle. The percentage of achievement of success criteria has increased, in pre-action was 17,24% becoming 34,48% in first cycle and becoming 79,31% in second cycle.
