THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE INTEGRATED METHOD IN THE TEACHING OF THE GERMAN READING SKILL AMONG THE GRADE X STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 5 YOGYAKARTA

Abstract


 

The objectives of this research are to find out (1) a positive and significant difference of achievements in the teaching of the German reading skill among the grade X students of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta between students who taught by using integrated method and those who taught without using integrated method, and (2) the effectiveness of integrated method in the teaching of the German reading skill among the grade X students of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta. This kind of research is a quasi-experiment using pre- and post-test control group design. The research data is obtained from German reading skill tests of students. The population of this research are the entire grade X students in SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta of the academic year of 2015/2016. The sampling technique is using simple random sampling. Based on the sampling technique, 32 students of X-D are taken as the experiment class and 32 students of X-H are taken as the control class. This research has two variabels: the integrated method as independent variabel, and the German reading skill as dependent variabel. The analysis of this research data using T-Test. The results of this research data by using T-Test produced the tcount 3,712 was higher than ttable 1.669. The effectiveness of this research was 7,79%. The average value of post-test in experiment class was 30,03 which higher than the average value of post-test in control class that was 28,00. Thus it can be concluded that the integrated method is more effective for the teaching of the German reading skill.
