THE GERMAN DEIXIS IN CAROLIN PHILIPPS’ “TRÄUME WOHNEN ÜBERALL”

Abstract

 

This research is aimed at describing (1) the form of German deixis in “Träumen wohnen überall” and (2) the function of German deixis in “Träumen wohnen überall”. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data are linguistic units of deixis in the first chapter in “Träumen wohnen überall”. Data collection is done by note-taking technique. Data analysis uses distributional method. The instrument of this research is human instrument. Further, validity test is implemented by using semantic validity, whereas reliability test is realized in the form intra-rater and inter-rater test. The results of this research reveal that (1) there are four forms of German deixis in “Träumen wohnen überall”, namely (a) personal reference; (b) time demonstrative reference; (c) location demonstrative reference; and (d) comparative reference. (2) Those deixis have five functions, namely (a) anaphoric function; (b) cataphoric function; (c) exophoric function (personal and locational); (d) time relation device function; and (e) comparative.
