AN ANALYSIS OF THE CHARAKTERIZATIONS AND SETTINGS OF DRAMA SCRIPT OF IPHGENIE AUF TAURIS BY JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE: A STRUCTURAL STUDY

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe (1) the characterization, (2) the settings , and (3) the relationship between the characterization and the setting of a drama entitled “Iphigenie Auf Tauris” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The source of the data is the script of the drama Iphigenie Auf Tauris by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe which was published in 2005 in Klagenfurt by Neuer Kaiser Verlag. The data are gathered by using read-note technique. The validity of the data is based on semantics validity and expert judgment. The reliability of this study is intra-rater and inter-rater reliability. The result of the study are Iphigenie: gentle, obedient and loyal, Thoas: the king of Barbar kingdom, wise; Orest: love his family and revenger; Arkas: loyal; Pilades: dodgy , Dewi Diana: brave and resolute; Agamemnon: the King of Mikena, fast and precise in making decision, Klitamnestra: traitor, revenger; Elektra: revenger and Agistos: revenger. Conception all of the rule are static, typical and introvert exept Thoas are dynamic, typical and introvert. The setting includes the places are Setting of place where the events take place includes: Diana temple, bathing place of Mikena kingdom and Aulis. Setting of place where show the mood of the characters includes the beach in Tauris Peninsula. Setting of place where show the characterization of the characters includes bathing place of Mikena Kingdom, and the times of the stories are the setting of history phase is where the Troy War happened. The setting of life phase of the characters is when Iphigene was in adulthood phase. The setting of a time in a day is in twilight. There is a relation between the characterization and the setting, which can be concluded that the setting influences the characterization of the drama Iphigenie Auf Tauris by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
