THE EFFORT IN IMPROVING STUDENTS PARTICIPATION THROUGH TEAMS-GAMES-TOURNAMENTS (TGT) METHOD

Abstract


The objective of the research is to improve participation in german speaking skill for class XII IPA 4 students at SMA Negeri 2 Purworejo through Teams-Games- Tournaments (TGT) method.The method of the reseacrh is classroom action research. The steps in each cycle consisted of planing, action, observation and reflection. The subject of the reseacrh was the class XII IPA 4 students at SMA Negeri 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. Data collection technique was through observation, interview, giving questionnaires, taking photograph and field notes. Data analysis was done through qualitative and quantitative descriptive. The result of the research shows that the implementation of Teams-Games-Tournaments (TGT) method could improve class XII IPA 4 students’ participation in German speaking skill. The improvement can be seen from the increase of percentage in each participation indicator and the average score of the students. The average score of students’ partcipation in cycle I is 75,36% and it shows improvement in cycle II to 89,70%. The improvement is supported by the increase of the average score of the students from 77 in cycle I to 80 in cycle II. In conclusion, the class XII IPA students’ participation has improved.
