PERSONALITY TYPE OF MAIN CHARACTER SIDDHARTHA OF HERMANN HESSE’S “SIDDHARTHA”: A PSYCHOLOGICAL CARL GUSTAV JUNG ANALYSIS

Abstract

This study intends to investigate (1) behavior and function of the psyche of the main character Siddhartha in the novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, and (2) The personality type of the main character Siddhartha in the named novel According to personality typologyJung’s.The work is a descriptive qualitative investigation. The approach of this examination is the psychological approach of Carl Gustav Jung. The source of this investigation is Roman Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, who was published 1922 by S. Fischer Verlag. The data are words, phrases, and sentences that have a psychological aspect. They were collected with reading and note technology. The validity of the data would be verified using semantic validity and expert judgment. The reliability test used is interadviser and intrarater.The results of this study show that (1) the behavior of the psyche of the main character Siddhartha are extrovert: Still, told very gladly, kindly, and there are seven introvertier restraints of main character Siddhartha: These are wise to give freedom, Optimistic, contempt, slightly anxious, envious, not easily satisfied. The function of the psyche of main character Siddhartha are the function of thoughts in events; Give different ideas to Govinda; To judge the teachings of the Buddha; Answer the questions of Kamaswami and Govinda; Find answers about his identity. The function of feeling in events; Sense the whole meaning of the world; To keep the feelings of Govinda; A feeling for Govinda. The function of the sensitivity in the events; Observing the Buddha and Kamala; About aroma exists in his life. The function of intuition in events; Find the Buddha. (2) The personality type of the main character Siddhartha according to boys personality typology is an introverted thought. Siddhartha is a intellegente person in the thinking and also theoretical-thinkable
