THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TEST -TAKING TEAMS TECHNIQUE FOR THE TEACHING OF THE GERMAN READING SKILL OF SMA NEGERI 1 GRABAG MAGELANG

Abstract
The objectives of this research are to find out (1) a difference of achievements in the teaching of the German reading skill of SMA Negeri 1 Grabag Magelang between classes which taught by using Test-Taking Teams technique and that which taught by conventional techniques, (2) the effectiveness of Test-Taking Teams technique in the teaching of the German reading skill of SMA Negeri 1 Grabag Magelang. This research is a quasi-experiment using pre- and post-test control group design. The population of this research are the entire grade XI students in SMA Negeri 1 Grabag Magelang totalling 161 students. The sampling technique is using simple random sampling. Based on the sampling technique, 25 students of XI IPS 1 are taken as the experiment class and 26 students of X IPS 4 are taken as the control class. The research data is obtained from German reading skill tests of students. The analysis of this research data using T-Test. The results of this research data by using TTest produced the tcount 3,201 was higher than ttable 2,00. That shows that there is a difference of achievments in the teching of the German reading skill between experiment class and control class. The effectiveness of this research was 7,5%. The average value of post-test in experiment class was 75,6 higher than the average value of post-test in control class that was 72,6. Thus it can be concluded that the Test-Taking Teams technique is more effective for the teaching of the German reading skill.
