THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MAGICAL REALSM IN WENDY B. FARIS’ PERSPECTIVE ON KERSTIN GIER’S “RUBINROT”

Abstract


This research aims to describe: (1) the characteristics of the element, (2) gradations of each element, (3) relation between elements, and (4) levels of magical realism in the perspective of Wendy B. Faris on Kerstin Gier’s Rubinrot. Data collected by the read and note technique. The technique used is descriptive qualitative. The results of this research indicate (1) roman Rubinrot had five characteristics of magical realism Wendy B. Faris, namely (a) the irreducible element: magical figures (James, Robert, Gideon and Gwendolyn), a magical object (kronograf, sound, gemstone diamonds and rubies), a magical place (Oxford Street, Gwendolyn hause, Saint Lennox school, documentation and kronograf room), and the magical events (interactions between Gwendolyn and James, Robert, Gargoyles, a leap of time, disappeared with kronograf, Gwendolyn and Gideon meetings with Germains Noble, Margret Tilney, and Madame d'Urfe), (b) the phenomenal world: place (Oxford Street, Hyde Park and Belgravia), character (The Saint Germains Noble and Madame Jeanne d'Urfe), (c) unsettling doubts: objects (the explorers of time gen), and characters (Falk de Villiers, Mr. George, Dr. White, grandmother Maddy and Germain Countess), (d) merging realms: figures (James, Gwendolyn and Gideon), (e) the distruption of time, space and identity (an identity disorder and time leaps experienced Gideons and Gwendolyn). (2) the gradations of each element: there is a clear distinction between the five elements of magical realism. (3) Relationships between the elements: a connected structure and influence as an element of the developer story. (4) the level of magical realism: Rubinrot have characterized the romance as a complete magical realism with a fairly strong levels seen from around the characters, objects and events in the novel.
