Abstract

Abstract

The aims of this study were to know the existance of proteolytic bacteria in the civet feces, to determine phenotypic characters of proteolytic bacteria selected from civet feces, and to determine optimum condition of the growth of proteolytic bacteria selected from civet feces. This experiment was the explorative experiment. The result of bacteria isolation from the civet feces were 40 mixture isolates consist of 37 nonproteolytic isolates and 3 proteolytic isolates. Two isolates (Bp1 and Bp19) of selected proteolytic bacteria were characterized in morphology and biochemistry. The growth of proteolytic bacteria with isolate code Bp1 had the optimum condition at exponential phase with Optical Density (OD) 1,351 on media containing Nutrient Broth (NB) and 1,381 on Nutrient Broth media and skim milk. Isolate code Bp19 had optimum condition with OD 1,168 on Nutrient Broth and 1,218 on Nutrient Broth media and skim milk. Based on the characterization, isolate Bp1 has allegated as Bacillus genus with similarity percentage 80% and isolate Bp19 has allegated as Proteus genus with similarity percentage 90,9%.
