THE PUBERTY PHASE OF THE MAIN CHARACTER MAIK IN WOLFGANG HERRNDORF’S TSCHICK

Abstract


The purpose of this research is to describe: (1) Character and characterizations, (2) adolescene phase of the main character Main in Wolfgang Herrndorf’s Tschick. The research used psychological approach by utilizing Erik H. Erikson’s pscychosozial development theory. The source of this research data is romane of Wolfgang Herrndorf’s Tschick published by Rowohlt Taschenbuch Verlag. Data obtained by reading and note-taking. Data analysis technique used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The validity of this research data were semantic validity and expert judgment. Reliability used were intrarater and interrater. The results of this study were: (1) character and characterization of the main character Maik boy’s 14-years old. He was in the stage of adolescence. Maik came from a weahlty family. He was an eighth grader at Hagecius-Gymnasium. Maik was a loner. Maik’s relationship with his family was less harmonius. The adolescence phase experienced by Maik character consists of (a) the pubertal characteristic of the Maik’s character was the interest in the opposite sex, the desire to be a scientist, interest in alkohol, and the desire to travel; (b) The identity of Maik’s identity crisis were feeling empty or chronic emptiness, low self-esteem, and having identity crisis; (c) Causes of identity crisis of the main character were treatment of the family environment and school environment; and (d) the main character attemped to overcome the identity crisis by having desire to make friends, desire to develop self-potential, and desire to increase self-confidence.
