SCHIZOPHRENIA IN THE CHARACTER OF VIKTOR LARENZ IN SEBASTIAN FITZEK ‘S DIE THERAPIE

Abstract


The purpose of this study is to find and describe, (1) the description of schizophrenia on the character Viktor, (2) the causes of schizophrenia on the character Viktor and, (3) handling of schizophrenia on character Viktor Larenz in roman works Die Therapie by Sebastian Fitzek. This study is a qualitative descriptive research using the psychological approach with utilizing abnormal psychology theory of Jeefrey S. Nevid, Spencer A. Rathus, and Beverley Greene. Data sources for this study is a roman work Die Therapie by Sebastian Fitzek published by Knau Taschenbuchverlag, Munich with ISBN 987-3-426-63309-0. Data in this study is obtained by read and write technique. The validity of this study is a semantic validity and consulted with the experts (expert judgment). Reliabilities use in this study are intra rater and inter rater reliability. The results of this research are as follow: (1) The symptoms of schizophrenia  character Viktor Larenz begins with hallucination or perception disorders which affect him in acting and thinking. Since Josy disappeared, Viktor’s schizophrenia episode became acute until it causes catatonic paralysis for four years. (2) The causes of schizophrenia on character Viktor Larenz are family and emotional expression. Since the death of Josy, Viktor felt guilty that led into sense of self-punishment. (3) The handling of schizophrenia on character Viktor is done in two ways. First is the biological approach by giving anti-psychotic drugs. But the treatment worsened Viktor’s condition. Second, Viktor experienced self-healing since Viktor’s self-healing is a hallucination about a woman named Anna Spiegel. The woman is a reflection of him.
