MODEL FORMATION OF NATION CHARACTER STUDENTS BY THE STUDY OF CIVIC EDUCATION AT SMA NEGERI 1 PURWOREJO

Abstract


This study was to describe the formation of a national character models in the study of civic education and implementation. This study also was to find the factors supporting and inhibiting the formation of the national character of students at SMA Negeri 1 Purworejo.

This research was a descriptive qualitative approach. Research ubjects were two teachers of Civics is class X and XI in SMA Negeri 1 Purworejo. Subject determination conducted by  purposive. Techniques of data collecting are observation, interview, and documentation. . While data validation technique used is triangulation technique, that is by checking data from the same source using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Technique of data analysis is inductive data analysis, which the steps include reduction, presentation and data conclusion.

The results showing that (1) the model used learning Civics teachers in shaping the character of the nation of learners at SMA Negeri 1 Purworejo includes two models: the first model of character education through school life, vision and mission of the school, exemplary teachers, enforcement of rules and discipline, the second character education model by using the method or model of learning. (2) Factors that support formation of nation character is: professional pedagogical competence and good teachers, have executable roles of teachers, teachers who have the creativity in the implementation of learning and supporting school rules. While the obstacles experienced teachers, the attitude of learners who do not support the implementation of national character formation model, teachers not supervise students outside school, yet the inclusion of attitude assessment in most learning plan (RPP) created by civic teachers.
