THE ROLE OF POLITICAL PARTY TO INCREASE WOMEN’S POLITICAL PARTICIPATION (A Study in the Branch Executive Council of Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle of Yogyakarta City)
Abstract
The research is aimed to describe: 1) the role of Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle’s branch executive council in increasing women’s political- participation in Yogyakarta city; 2) the constrains faced of Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle’s branch executive council in its way to augment women’s participation in politic in Yogyakarta city, and 3) the efforts done by Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle’s branch executive council to solve those problems.
The study is a descriptive research applying qualitative approach. The data are gathered by means of interview and documentation. The subjects of this research were selected through purposive sampling technique. They were Danang Rudiyatmoko (The chairman in the branch executive council of Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle), Darini (The deputy of woman and children division), Suryani (A legislative member representing Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle), Purwandari (A former legislative candidate from Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle), and Florentina Afra Suwartina (a female member of Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle). The data reliability was checked by means of cross check data. The data were analyzed through data finding, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The result of this study shows: 1) Branch executive council of Indonesian Democratic Party-Strunggle attempts to rise women’s participation in politic were done by the means of structural militant, discussions, leadership trainings, seminars, press-release-writing simulations, broadcasts, public speaking, door- stoop-interview trainings, press release, campaign trainings, and cooperation with both private organization and the government. 2) The constrains faced were including of the patriarchal culture in the society, the lack of political knowledge and experience, the practice of money politic, and the low-financial-level women have. 3) The efforts done to address the problems were applied through the awareness practice of women’ political-involvement, cadres forming, and providing necessary fund.
