KARAKTER KEDISIPLINAN SISWA SMA NEGERI 2 JEMBER SETELAH MENGIKUTI KEMAH PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER

Abstract


SMA Negeri 2 Jember is a school implementing character education through a Character Education Camp (CEC) to build the students’ discipline character. This study aimed to investigate the extent of the discipline character of the students of SMA Negeri 2 Jember after attending CEC.
This was a descriptive study using the quantitative approach. The research variable was CEC. The research population comprised all the students of Grades X and XI of SMA Negeri 2 Jember in the 2015/2016 academic year with a total of 714 students. The sample, consisting of 88 students, was selected by means of Slovin’s formula at a margin error of 10%. The sampling technique in the study was the random sampling technique. The data were collected by a questionnaire. The validity was assessed by Pearson’s product moment formula and the reliability by Cronbach’s Alpha model. The data analysis technique was the descriptive statistical technique using the calculation of the mean and mode to find out the students’ discipline levels. The collected data were processed by the program of SSPS Version 23 and Microsoft Excel 2007.
The results of the study showed that the discipline character level of the students of SMA Negeri 2 Jember after attending CEC was high. The level was high because their discipline after attending CEC improved. The discipline after attending CEC was based on three indicators, namely punctuality, obedience, and responsibility. The three indicators showed the results in the high category. Therefore, the students’ punctuality, obedience, and responsibility improved after attending CEC. The highest score was that of the responsibility indicator while the lowest score was that of the punctuality indicator. On the whole, the indicators of the discipline of Grade X students attained higher mean scores than those of Grade XI students.
