EFEKTIVITAS METODE OUTDOOR STUDY DALAM MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI DAN HASIL BELAJAR IPS SISWA KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 1 SRUMBUNG

Abstract


This study aimed to find out: 1) the difference in the Social Studies learning motivation between Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung using the Outdoor Study method and those using the cooperative learning model of the Jigsaw type; 2) the difference in the Social Studies learning outcomes between Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung using the Outdoor Study method and those using the cooperative learning model of the Jigsaw type; 3) the effectiveness of the Outdoor Study method to improve the Social Studies learning motivation of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung; and 4) the effectiveness of the Outdoor Study method to improve the Social Studies learning outcomes of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung.
This was a quasi-experimental study. The sample, consisting of Grade VIII F as the experimental class and Grade VIII G as the control class, was selected by means of the simple random sampling technique. The data were collected by observations, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. They were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney test and the size effect.
The results of the study were as follows. 1) There was no significant difference in the Social Studies learning motivation between Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung in the 2015/2016 academic year using the Outdoor Study method and those using the cooperative learning model of the Jigsaw type because the results of the Mann-Whitney test showed a probability value of (sig)>0.05 (0.365>0.05) so that the evidence was not sufficient to reject Ho. 2) There was a significant difference in the Social Studies learning outcomes between Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung in the 2015/2016 academic year using the Outdoor Study method and those using the cooperative learning model of the Jigsaw type, indicated by the results of the Mann-Whitney test with a probability value of (sig)<0.05 (0.008>0.05). 3) The Outdoor Study method was not effective to improve the Social Studies learning motivation of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung in the 2015/2016 academic year. 4) The Outdoor Study method was effective to improve the Social Studies learning outcomes of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Srumbung in the 2015/2016 academic year. The effectiveness of the use of the Outdoor Study method to improve the Social Studies learning outcomes was indicated by the result of the calculation of the size effect, namely d = 707 (0.2<d<08), which was moderate.
