HUBUNGAN LINGKUNGAN BELAJAR DENGAN PRESTASI BELAJAR IPS SISWA YANG TINGGAL DI PESANTREN DAN SISWA YANG TINGGAL DI RUMAH SENDIRI DI MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH NEGERI (MTsN) WONOKROMO BANTUL TAHUN AJARAN 2015/2016

Abstract


This study aims to investigate: (1) the relationship between the learning environments and the Social Studies learning achievements among students living in the pesantren, (2) the relationship between the learning environments and the Social Studies learning achievements among students living in their own houses, and (3) the difference in the Social Studies learning achievements between students living in the pesantren and those living in their own houses.
This was a correlational study. The research population comprised students of Grades VII, VIII, and IX of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN) Wonokromo, Bantul, consisting of those living in the pesantren and those living in their own houses. There were 184 students living in the pesantren and 390 students living in their houses so that total population comprised 574 students. The sample was selected by means of the proportionate stratified random sampling technique based on the formula by Isaac and Michael and the sample consisted of 124 students living in the pesantren and 193 living in their own houses. The data were collected by a questionnaire and documentation. The questionnaire validity was assessed an expert (through expert judgment), namely one lecturer narasumber. The data analysis techniques were the product moment correlation and the independent t-test.
The results of the study are as follows. (1) There is a significant positive relation between the learning environments and the Social Studies learning achievements among the students living in the pesantren, indicated by robserved=0.76>rtable=0.176 at a significance level of 5% or p-value=0.000<0.05 so that the hypothesis is accepted. (2) There is a significant positive relation between the learning environments and the Social Studies learning achievements among the students living in their own houses, indicated by robserved=0.768>rtable=0.138 at a significance level of 5% or p-value=0.000<0.05 so that the hypothesis is accepted. (3) There is a significant difference in the Social Studies learning achievements between the students living in the pesantren and those living in their own houses, indicated by tobserved=2.863>ttable=1.960 so that the hypothesis is accepted.
