PENGEMBANGAN BLOG INTERAKTIF SEBAGAI SUMBER BELAJAR IPS SMP KELAS VII DENGAN MATERI KEGIATAN POKOK EKONOMI

Abstract


This study aimed to: 1) develop a blog as a Social Studies learning resource for Grade
VII of the junior high school (JHS) for the topic of primary economic activities, and 2)
investigate the appropriateness of the blog for the topic of primary economic activities as a
Social Studies learning resource for Grade VII of JHS based on the validation by a materials
expert, a media expert, a Social Studies teacher at JHS, and Grade VII students’ responses.
The research and development study yielded a product in the form of an interactive blog as a
learning resource for Grade VII students of JHS. The blog can be accessed in the address
www.kelasonlineips.com. The study employed the research and development (R&D) method
and referred to the development model by Borg & Gall. The blog platform was CMS (Course
Management System) taken from wordpress. The programming steps were taken from those
provided by wordpress.com and the notepad++ application. The research subjects were
Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Semanu with a total of 32 students. The results of the
study were as follows. 1) The product was a blog as a Social Studies learning resource for
Grade VII of JHS for the topic of primary economic activities. The steps in developing the
blog as a learning resource were needs analysis, program identification, flow chart making,
storyboard making, materials collection, programming, and finishing. 2) The assessment of
the appropriateness of the blog as a learning resource was done through validation by a
materials expert, a media expert, a Social Studies teacher, and a tryout involving students.
Based on the appropriateness media analysis, it can be concluded that all the aspects of the
assessment by the materials expert, the media expert, the Social Studies teacher, and the
students attain mean scores ranging from 3.64 to 4.45 with good and very good categories.
Therefore, the developed blog is appropriate in terms of the materials and media aspects as a
Social Studies learning resource for Grade VII of JHS for the topic of primary economic
activities.
