PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA GRAFIS BERBENTUK LIFT THE FLAP BOOK SEBAGAI MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN DALAM MATA PELAJARAN IPS MATERI BENTUK MUKA BUMI DAN AKTIFITAS PENDUDUK INDONESIA
Abstract
This study aimed to: 1) produce graphic media in the form of a Lift-the-Flap book for the topic of earth surface forms and Indonesian people’s activities as Social Studies learning media for Grade VII of the junior high school (JHS); and 2) investigate the appropriateness of the graphic media in the form of a Lift-the-Flap book based on the assessment by a materials expert, a media expert, a Social Studies teacher, and students’ responses.
This was a research and development (RnD) study referring to the development model by Sugiyono. The research subjects were Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Prambanan, Klaten. The data

collecting instruments were assessment sheets for the validation experts and questionnaires for the application testing by the students and Social Studies teacher. The data were analyzed by means of the descriptive technique using the quantitative approach.
The results of the study were as follows. 1) The graphic media in the form of a Lift-the-Flap book were developed through several stages, i.e.: a) studying Core Competencies (CC) and Basic Competencies (BC); b) formulating the materials for Earth Surface Forms and Indonesian People’s Activities; c) formulating construction strategies and techniques consisting of collecting pictures, determining focuses of the materials, and making a brief; d) designing by using Corel Draw X7 and Adobe Photoshop CS 6; e) printing by using 210 gram ivory paper and 150 gram Art Paper; f) sticking the background; g) binding by using a hardcover; h) sticking and arranging the Lift-Plap construction; i) validating and revising the design; j) conducting the application testing by involving the teacher and students; and k) finalizing the product. 2) In general, the graphic media in the form of a Lift-the-Flap book for the topic of earth surface forms and Indonesian people’s activities were appropriate with the following final results, i.e.: a) 4.3 with a very good category from the media validation; b) 4.2 with a good category from the media validation; c) 4.1 with a good category from the teacher validation; d) a mean score of 3.9 with a good category from the small-scale tryout; and e) a mean score of 4.4 with a very good category from the application testing. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the graphic media in the form of a Lift-the-Flap book for the topic of earth surface forms and Indonesian people’s activities are appropriate and can be used as learning media.
