Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of password policies applied by Informatics Engineering students in comparison with students from neighbouring faculties, as well as to understand the factors which influence the policy implementation level applied by students of The State University of Yogyakarta. This study uses quantitative method, and is a descriptive research, using accidental sampling technique which falls into non-probability sampling method. The data was collected using questionnaires and then analysed using descriptive statistic method. The result of this study shows that the implementation of password policies conducted by students of The State University of Yogyakarta is in ‘safe’ category (63%), and, generally speaking, there is no significant difference between the Informatics Engineering students and other faculty students regarding the implementation of password policies. Factors that influence the implementation of password policies are the users’ habits and the availability of policies in a system.
