PENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA PERMULAAN MELALUI MEDIA BIG BOOK

Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan proses dan hasil kemampuan membaca permulaan melalui media big book siswa kelas I di SD Negeri Tegalrejo 3 Yogyakarta. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindak Kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan kolaboratif. Model penelitian ini menggunakan model Kemmis dan Mc Taggart. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas I SD Negeri Tegalrejo 3 Yogyakarta berjumlah 28 siswa. Hasil kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I SD Negeri Tegalrejo 3 Yogyakarta dapat meningkat melalui proses membaca permulaan dengan langkah penggunaan media big book. Peningkatan dibuktikan rata-rata nilai meningkat dari pratindakan 54, siklus I menjadi 61, dan siklus II menjadi 74. Persentase ketuntasan juga mengalami peningkatan dari pratindakan 39%, siklus I menjadi 64%, dan siklus II menjadi 86%. Peningkatan rata-rata nilai pada pratindakan-siklus I meningkat 7, siklus I-siklus II meningkat 13, dan pratindakan-siklus II meningkat 20. Peningkatan presentase ketuntasan pratindakan-siklus I meningkat 25%, siklus I-siklus II meningkat 22%, dan pratindakan-siklus II meningkat 47%.

Abstact
This research aims to improve learning process and students’ basic reading skill through big book of first grade students at Tegalrejo 3 Public Elementary School Yogyakarta. This research was a classroom research done by collaborative with classroom teacher. Kemmis & McTaggart’s research model was adopted in this research. The subjects were 28 first grade students at Tegalrejo 3 Public Elementary School Yogyakarta. The result shows that the use of big book can improve students’ basic reading skill of first grade students at Tegalrejo 3 Public Elementary School Yogyakarta. The improvement of students’ basic reading skill was indicated by the improvement of average scores and mastery levels from pre-action to cycle II. The average scores of students’ basic reading skill were 54 in the pre-action, 61 in the cycle I, and 74 in the cycle II. The mastery levels of students’ basic reading skill in the pre-action, cycle I, and cycle II were 39%, 64%, and 86% respectively. The improvement of students’ average scores from pre-action to cycle I, from cycle I to cycle II, from pre-action to cycle II were 7, 13, and 20 respectively. The improvement of students’ mastery levels from pre-action to cycle I, from cycle I to cycle II, from pre-action to cycle II were 25%, 22%, and 47% respectively.
