Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to improve learning outcomes in arithmetic operations of addition and subtraction of integers among Grade IV students of the elementary school through number line media at SDN Karanggondang, Sewon, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This was a classroom action research study employing the model by Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. The research subjects were Grade IV students with a total of 35 students. The data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation. They were analyzed by means of the quantitative descriptive technique. The results of the study showed that there was an improvement in Mathematics learning outcomes. In Cycle I, there was an improvement and the mean score of the mastery was 64.39; 74% attained the mastery. In Cycle II; the mean score improved to 85 of the mastery; 22.85% did not attain the mastery and 77.14% attained it. Therefore, the improvement in the mean score from Cycle I to Cycle II was 20.61. In addition, the students’ activeness in joining the class also improved, indicated by their activeness in asking questions, answering questions, and expressing opinions (based on the results of observations).
