THE EFFECT OF USING PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) COMBINED WITH COLLABORATIVE ACTIVITIES TRUE OR FALSE STRATEGY ON CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS CLASS XI

Abstract


Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan Problem Based Learning
(PBL) dipadu dengan aktivitas kolaboratif menggunakan True or False Strategy terhadap
kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMA kelas XI pada materi pokok gerak parabola.
Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan metode eksperimen semu (Quasi Experimental) dengan
melibatkan adanya kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa
kelas XI semester 1 SMAN 1 Kalasan Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Sampel diambil dengan teknik
cluster random sampling, sebanyak 2 kelas. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini
adalah perangkat pembelajaran berupa Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) dan Lembar
Kerja Siswa (LKS), rubrik penilaian kemampuan berpikir kritis, lembar observasi pelaksanaan
pembelajaran, soal pre-test dan soal post-test. Data dianalisis dengan uji t sampel independen
(Independent Sample T-Test) dan dicari nilai gain kemampuan berpikir kritisnya untuk
mengetahui besar peningkatannya.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) terdapat pengaruh penerapan PBL dipadu dengan
aktivitas kolaboratif menggunakan True or False Strategy terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis
siswa SMA kelas XI pada materi pokok gerak parabola; 2) Kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa
pada kelas eksperimen mengalami peningkatan sebesar 52% sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar
26%; 3) Pembelajaran dengan PBL dipadu dengan aktivitas kolaboratif menggunakan True or
False Strategy memberikan hasil lebih baik dalam membangun keterampilan berpikir kritis
siswa.

This study aims to determine the effect of using Problem Based Learning (PBL) combined
with collaborative activities true or false strategy on critical thinking skills of high school
students class XI in projectile motion.
Research conducted by a quasi-experimental method involving the experimental class and
control class. The population was all students of class XI SMAN 1 Kalasan, first semester of
Academic Year 2016/2017. Samples were taken using cluster random sampling, as many as two
classes. The instrument used in this study is a learning device in the form of Lesson Plan (RPP)
and Student Worksheet (LKS), critical thinking skills assessment rubrics, observation sheets of
learning implementation, pre-test and post-test questions. Data were analyzed by independent sample t test and finding the value of critical thinking skills gain to know their improvement.
The results showed that: 1) there is an effect of the application of PBL combined with
collaborative activities using True or False Strategy on critical thinking skills of high school
students class XI in projectile motion; 2) critical thinking skills of students in the experimental
class increased by 52% while the control group by 26%; 3) Learning with PBL combined with
collaborative activities using True or False Strategy provides better results in developing
students critical thinking skills.
