DEVELOPING DISCOVERY LEARNING-BASED PHYSICS MODULE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS CRITICAL THINKING AND CREATIVE THINKING SKILL IN SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 1 KLATEN
Abstract
Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menghasilkan modul fisika berbasis discovery learning yang layak untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan berpikir kreatif siswa SMA, (2) mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan berpikir kreatif siswa setelah diterapkan modul fisika berbasis discovery learning. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan (R&D) dengan model 4-D menurut Thiagarajan dan Semmel yang memiliki 4 tahap yaitu: define, design, develop, dan disseminate. Produk penelitian hasil pengembangan berupa modul fisika berbasis discovery learning pada materi fluida statis. Uji coba produk meliputi uji coba terbatas pada siswa kelas XI IPA 5 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten dan uji coba lapangan pada siswa kelas XI IPA 6 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu RPP, modul fisika berbasis discovery learning, soal pretest-posttest dan lembar observasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran. Kelayakan modul fisika berbasis discovery learning dilihat dari rata-rata skor penilaian validator dan respon siswa yang diubah menjadi kategori kualitatif. Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan berpikir kreatif siswa diketahui berdasarkan hasil pretest dan posttest siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) modul fisika berbasis discovery learning yang dikembangkan layak digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan berpikir kreatif siswa SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten berdasarkan penilaian dosen ahli dan guru mata pelajaran fisika kelas XI SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten memiliki nilai rata-rata sebesar 3,94 dengan kategori kualitas sangat baik, hasil respon siswa dengan nilai 3,58 (sangat baik) pada uji coba terbatas dan 3,65 (sangat baik) pada uji coba lapangan, (2) penerapan modul fisika berbasis discovery learning pada materi fluida statis mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas XI IPA 5 pada uji coba terbatas dan siswa kelas XI IPA 6 pada uji coba lapangan dengan nilai standar gain secara berturut-turut 0,2 (kategori rendah) dan 0,5 (kategori sedang) serta mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa kelas XI IPA 5 pada uji coba terbatas dan siswa kelas XI IPA 6 pada uji coba lapangan dengan nilai standar gain secara berturut-turut 0,4 (kategori sedang) dan 0,4 (kategori sedang). Kata kunci: Model Discovery Learning, kemampuan berpikir kritis dan berpikir kreatif Abstract This study aimed to: (1) develope a feasible discovery learning-based physics module to improve high school students’ critical thinking and creative thinking skill, (2) find out the improvement of students’ critical thinking and creative thinking skill after the discovery learning-based physics module had been applied. This study was categorized as Research and Development ( R&D) with the 4-D model according to Thiagarajan and Semmel which comprised four steps namely: define, design, develop, dan disseminate. The product as the result of the development was a discovery learning-based physics module for static fluids material. The test covered preliminary testing to the students of class XI IPA 5 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten and main testing on the students of class XI IPA 6 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten. The research instruments used in this study were a lesson plan, discovery learning-based physics module, pretest-postest test items, and the learning implementation observation sheet. The feasibility of discovery learning-based physics module was measured based on the mean score of validators’ assessment and the students’ response which was transformed into a qualitative category. The improvement of students’ critical thinking and creative thinking skill were found out based on the result of students’ pretest and post-test score. The result of the study showed that: (1) discovery learning-bases physics model was feasible to improve the students’ critical thinking and creative thinking skill in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten based on the expert and the physics teacher of class XI of SMA Muhammadiyah Klaten, its mean score was 3.94 which was categorized as very good, the score of students’ response was 3.58 (very good) in preliminary testing and 3.65 (very good) in the main testing. (2) The implementation of discovery learning-based physics module on static fluids was able to improve the students’ critical thinking in class XI IPA 5 on preliminary testing and students of XI IPA 6 on the field testing with the score of standard gain was 0.2 (categorized as low) and 0.5 (categorized as medium) respectively. It was also able to improve the students of class XI IPA 5’ creative thinking in preliminary testing and students’ of class XI IPA 6 in the main testing with the score of standard gain was 0.4 (categorized as medium) and 0.4 (categorized as medium) respectively.
