Abstract


The research aimed: (1) to know differences of writing short story skills
between students who used synectics model assisted media documentary film and
without using synectics model assisted media documentary film. (2) To prove the
effectiveness of synectics model assisted media documentary film in writing short
story for grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Sewon Bantul.
This research used quantitative research with method of experiment research.
Design of this research used control group pretest and posttest design. The population
of this research are 216 students of grade VII of SMP Negeri 1 Sewon Bantul. The
sampling technique was taken through cluster random sampling. It can be concluded
that VII B class was used as a control group and VIII A class was used as an
experimental group. The data collection technique was through test by writing short
story. The instrument validity is used by contents validity with consultancy of expert
judgment. Data analysis use t-test statistic with degree of 5% significant.
Requirements analysis test used normality test and homogenity test.
The results of this research are: (1) there are significant differences of writing
short story skills between students who used synectics model assisted media
documentary film and without using synectics model assisted media documentary
film. The calculation results of independent sample test show that t-test value is -
2,531 with db 52 and p value is 0,014 with 5% degree of significance. P value is
smaller than 0,05 degree of significance (P=0,014<0,05). (2) Synectics model assisted
media documentary film is effective in learning writing short story experimental
group compared to control group without synectics model assisted media
documentary film. The calculation results of paired sample statistic show that t-test
value is -11,329 with db 26 and p value 0,000 with 5% degree of significance. P
value is smaller than 0,05 degree of significant (P=0,000<0,05). Test examination of
gain score shows that the mean is 7,0000.
