EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH THE TAMAN BATIK JUMPUT BATIK GROUP IN SITIMULYO, PIYUNGAN, BANTUL DISTRICT

Abstract

This research aims to explain women’s empowerment through the Taman Batik Jumput batik group in Sitimulyo Village as well as the factors that encourage and inhibit women’s empowerment.  This research uses a qualitative descriptive research design with data collection through observation, documentation and interviews.  The research results show that empowering women through the Taman Batik Jumput batik group is able to raise awareness and develop jumput batik skills through the Taman Batik Jumput batik group among women in Sitimulyo District.  Women’s empowerment is analyzed using 3 stages including the awareness stage, capacity building stage, and empowerment stage.  The awareness stage for community leaders in Sitimulyo Village was able to make women aware by providing insight and skills in making jumput batik.  At the capacity building stage, the women of Sitimulyo Village were able to develop jumput batik by forming a batik group.  The empowerment stage provides an opportunity to market Jumput batik work.  There are factors driving women’s empowerment, namely women from Sitimulyo Village are enthusiastic about being given women’s empowerment activities and inhibiting factors, namely limited budget and time.
