THE CLASSIFICATION OF THE EMOTION OF THE MAIN CHARACTER ERIKA IN ELFRIEDE JELINEK’S ”DIE KLAVIERSPIELERIN“

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the classification of emotions from the main character in Elfriede Jelinek’s “Die Klavierspielerin”. This research using psychological approach by utilizing the theory of Classification of emotions from David Krech. Data sources obtained from Elfriede Jelinek’s book “Die Klavierspielerin” published by Rororo (Rowolth Taschenbuch Verlag) in 2015. The data were collected through reading and note-taking. The data analysis occupied descriptive qualitative technique. The validity of the data was obtained through the semantic validity and expert judgement. The reliability of the data was attained through the intrarater and interrater reliability. The study showed that Erika have classification of emotions as follows: (1) Primary emotions consists of 6 joy, 4 anger, 6 fear, and 2 grief. (2) Emotions pertaining to sensory stimulations which consists of 2 pain and 20 delights. (3) Emotions pertaining to self-appraisal consists of 4 success and failure, 4 pride and shame and 2 guilt and remorse. (4) Emotions pertaining to other people which consists of 10 love and 13 hate.
