THE EFFORT TO IMPROVE GERMAN VOCABULARY MASTERY OF 12th GRADE STUDENTS MIA 4 OF SMA NEGERI 1 MUNTILAN THROUGH CHAIN CARDS

Abstract
This study aims to improve: (1) learners’ participation, (2) German vocabulary mastery among the 12th grade students MIA 4 of SMA Negeri 1 Muntilan by use of chain cards. The study belongs to Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. Each of the cycles consisted of four steps, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The strategy was determined collaboratively between researcher, teacher, and students. The subjects of the research are 33 12th grade students MIA 4 of SMA N 1 Muntilan. The data in this study were obtained through interviews, observation, questionnaires, field notes, German vocabulary test and documentation. The data was analyzed by using qualitative descriptive analysis. The result shows the use of chain card increase (1) is effective in increasing the mastery determined by the improvement level that reaches 78%. In addition to the success of the process, there is also (2) increase of average score in German vocabulary mastery of 12thgrade students MIA 4 of SMA Negeri 1 Muntilan students which reaches 24%.
