THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PICTURE SERIES FOR THE TEACHING OF THE GERMAN WRITING SKILL AMONG THE GRADE X STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 SEDAYU BANTUL

Abstract


 

The objectives of this research are to find out (1) a positive and significant difference of achievements in the teaching of the German writing skill among the grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Sedayu between students who taught by using picture series and those who taught without using picture series, and (2) the effectiveness of picture series in the teaching of the German writing skill among the grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Sedayu. This kind of research is a quasi-experiment using pre- and post-test control group design. The research data is obtained from German writing skill tests of students. The population of this research are the entire grade X students in SMA Negeri 1 Sedayu of the academic year of 2015/2016. The sampling technique is using simple random sampling. Based on the sampling technique, 31 students of X MIPA 2 are taken as the experiment class and 30 students of X MIPA 1 are taken as the control class. This research has two variabels: the picture series as independent variabel, and the German writing skill as dependent variabel. The analysis of this research data using T-Test. The results of this research data by using T-Test produced the tcount 1.312 was lower than ttable 1.671 with the significance level (α) 0.05. These showed that there were no significant difference of achievement in the German writing skill between the experiment class and the control class. However, the effectiveness of this research was 2%. The average value of post-test in experiment class was 77.93 which higher than the average value of post-test in control class that was 76.73. Thus it can be concluded that picture series is more effective in the teaching for the German writing skill. The result showed: (1) there were no significant difference of achievement in the German writing skill between the experiment class and the control class, (2) the picture series is more effective for the teaching of the German writing skill.
