LÉVI-STRAUSS’ STRUCTURALISM IN THE COLLECTION OF BROTHERS GRIMM’S FOLKTALES “DIE WAHRE BRAUT” AND “DER ARME UND DER REICHE”

Abstract

This research was aimed to describe (1) surface structure of folktales Die wahre Braut and Der Arme und der Reiche named Episode and Unit Episode, (2) deep structure of folktales Die wahre Braut and Der Arme und der Reiche named mytheme and binary Opposition. Data sources of this research were Die wahre Braut and Der Arme und der Reiche from folktales collection of Brothers Grimm’s Kinder- und Hausmärchen. Data of this research were phrase, words or sentences of folktales Die wahre Braut and Der Arme und der Reiche. Data were obtained by reading and recording techniques. Data were analyzed by descriptive qualitative techniques applying objective method. Data reliability used were interrater and intrerater reliability. The result of this research were: (1) surface structure named Episode and Unit Episode (a) Märchen Die wahre Braut divided into 5 Episodes and 40 Unit of Episodes (b) Märchen Der Arme und der Reiche divided into 4 Episodes and 21 Unit of Episodes. (2) deep structure named mytheme and binary Opposition (a) in Märchen Die wahre Braut was found 39 mythemes and 7 binary Oppositions (b) in Märchen Der Arme und der Reiche was found 23 mythemes and 2 binary Oppositions.
