THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SQ4R-METHOD IN THE LEARNING OF GERMAN READING SKILLS LEARNING IN SMA NEGERI 1 SEYEGAN SLEMAN
Abstract
This study aims to knowing (1) The significant difference of achievement study in German language reading skill teaching for student grade XI in SMA Negeri 1 Seyegan Sleman, between those which had been teach using SQ4R method and using convensional method and (2) to determine the effectiveness of the use of SQ4R-method in teaching reading skills in German language reading skill teaching for student grade XI in SMA Negeri 1 Seyegan Sleman. This type of research is a quasi experiment. Sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Testing validity uses Korelasi Point Biserial validity. The result of this validity test shows that 39 out of 50 questions are valid and 11 questions are not valid. The reliability was calculated by the KR-20. The Koefisien of reliability is 0.945. Data analyze used t-test. The results showed t count (at 3,69) is greater than t table (at 2.005), at the level of α= 0.05. It can be concluded that the use of SQ4R method in learning the German language reading skills is more effective than the conventional method. Post-test results of both groups showed that the mean of the experimental group is at 83,09 while the mean of the control group at 77,48 of the weight of the effectiveness of 8,9%.
