GRAMMATICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION OF FRIEDRICH SCHILLER’S POEM AN DIE FREUDE (SCHLEIRMACHER’S HERMENEUTIC ANALYSIS)
Abstract
The objectives of this research are to describe (1) the concept of grammatical and (2) psychological concept of the poetry An die Freude by Friedrich Schiller. Data source of this study is the poetry An die Freude by Friedrich Schiller which is written on “The Oxford Book of German Verse”. The data is obtained by observation techniques, heuristical-, and hermeneutical reading. This research is analized with qualitative descriptive analysis. The data reliability used intra-rater and inter-rater reliability. The results of this study are (1) the interpretation of grammatical concepts such as: a) Cohesion sentence, i.e.: reference (refers to the plural first person, possessive pronoun of third person singular, possessive pronoun of second person, and possessive pronoun of third person plural), ellipsis (subject, verb, auxiliary verb, objects, articles, and vocals removal), conjunctions (und, mit, and wenn). b) Components of poetry are: theme (excitement), feeling (happy), mandate (invitation for forgiving, forgetting grudges), figure of speech (which is mostly used: metaphor, personification, and metonymy). (2) Interpretation of psychological concept is done by analyzing the Schiller's psychological condition when he wrote this poetry. This poetry is dominated by the feeling of happiness.
