THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE “MAKE A MATCH” TECHNIQUE IN THE LEARNING OF READING IN GERMAN AMONG THE STUDENTS OF CLASS XI SMA NEGERI 2 KLATEN
Abstract
This study aimed to determine: (1) differences achievement in the learning of reading in German among the students of class XI SMA Negeri 2 Klaten between the taught using the Make a Match techniques and taught using conventional teaching technique, (2) the effectiveness of Make a Match technique in the learning of reading in among the students of class XI SMA Negeri 2 Klaten. This research is a quasi experimental. The design of this study is the pre-test and post- test control group design. This study has two variables, namely independent variables and dependent variables. The Make a Match technique as independent variables and reading skills in German as dependent variable. The population of this study is all the students class XI SMA Negeri 2 Klaten by 178 students.The sampling technique using simple random sampling. Obtained from sampling XI IPS 1 (26 students) as the experimental class and class XI IPS 2 (25 students) as an control class. The data obtained in the study of German language reading skills scores of students in the pre-test and post-test. Test the validity using content validity and construct validity. Test the validity of calculated by formula correlation product moment. Test the validity of the results show that as many as 40 of the 50 questions about valid and 10 about invalid. Reliability is calculated with the formula KR- 20 with the reliability coefficient of 0,955. Analysis of the data in this study using t-test. Based on the results of t-test analysis of the data shows that tobtained 3,578 greater than ttable 2,009 with significance level α = 0.05. This means that there is a difference in learning achievement German reading skills between the experimental class and the control class. The weight of the effectiveness is 8,13% . The average value of the post-test experimental class was 27,250 higher than the average value of the post-test control class is 26,300. So it can be concluded that the Make a Match technique effective in the learning of reading in German.
