THE PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN THE CHARACTER OF BECKMANN IN DRAUßEN VOR DER TÜR: THE THEORY OF FREUD’S PSYCHOANALYSIS

Abstract

This research had purposed to describe (1) character of Beckmann in the drama Draußen vor der Tür by Wolfgang Borchert, (2) psychological’s problems experienced by the character Beckmann in the drama Draußen vor der Tür by Wolfgang Borchert, and (3) the attempts to resolve Beckmann’s psychological problems in the drama Draußen vor der Tür by Wolfgang Borchert. The research methods: qualitative descriptive. The results of this research are: (1) the character of Beckmann; (a) physical characteristics, a adult male, aged twenty-five years old, looks old and strange, deformed feet and eye, (b) social characteristics, a war soldier, he was a sergeant, the homeless, the poor, and (c) the psychic trait, a grumpy, stubborn, rude, not confident, pessimistic, and sensitive. (2) the psychological problems that plagued figure Beckmann: despair, disillusionment, helplessness, anxiety, unconfidence, resentment, feeling guilty, and indecision. (3) the attempts to resolve Beckmann’s psychological problems: rationalization, sublimation, repression, the transfer (Displacement), fantasy, projection, apathy, and suicide.
