AN EXPERIMENTAL AESTHETICS STUDY: THE RESPONSE OF ACADEMIC READERS TO HEINRICH VON KLEIST’S DER ZERBROCHENE KRUG
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to figure out the academic reader response towards Kleist’s Der Zerbrochene Krug. This response in the form of 1) general evaluation, 2) evaluation based on specifics criteria, and 3) the relevant criteria in rationalization of the academic reader towards this drama. The data collecting technique is questioner adapted from Rien T. Segers’s research in Yale University. The validity of instrument is using expert judgment by Prof. Dr. Suminto A. Sayuti. The reliability of instrument obtained through Alpha Cornbach formula of rxx=0,907. The data analysis is using descriptive statistic of Microsoft Excel and SPSS 19. Then, the result of the data is arranged in table and being described. The result of this research is 1) the drama gets average point 5.65 which means that the drama rated good by academic reader, 2) based on specific criteria, there are four results of the criteria which is very high, high, medium, and low. 3) the relevant criteria in rationalization general evaluation of academic reader towards Kleist’s Der zerbrochene Krug are social critique, conflict, irony, lifelike, plot, structure, reader’s interest, involvement, emotion, characterization, reasonable, understandable, form, reader's satisfaction, attractiveness, and symbolization.
