THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND POLITICAL CONDITIONS AS REFLECTED IN FRIEDRICH DÜRRENMATT’S DER BESUCH DER ALTEN DAME

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe the social condition, the economic condition, and the political condition of the people as reflected in drama Der Besuch der alten Dame. The resource is a play Der Besuch der alten Dame by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. The research data are words, phrases, or sentences that support or demonstrate economic, political, and social fields conditions of German people in circa 1950s as reflected in drama Der besuch der alten Dame. Data were obtained by reading and recording technique, that used descriptive qualitative techniques. Validity are obtained with semantic validity and consulted with experts. The used of reliability is interrater and intrarater reliability. The results are as follows:1) the social conditions as reflected in drama is same with the social conditions of German people in 1950s, that the people feel helplesness and injustice after World War II and social changes of the effort to revive the financial of Germany, 2 ) economic conditions as reflected in drama is same with the economic conditions of German people in 1950s, that is poverty, loss of a ob and home also, the dependences of food subsidies, and economic change based on Marshall Plan from US, 3) the poltical conditions as reflected in drama is same with the political conditions of German people in 1950s, that Germany divided by two parts and the different power systems made dissafiction from the people in East Germany.
