THE STRUCTURAL COMPARISON BETWEEN “KURZGESCHICHTE DER JAGER GRACCHUS” AND A SHORT STORY “KERONCONG PEMBUNUHAN”

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the structural comparison between ‘Kurzgeschichte der Jäger gracchus’ by Franz Kafka and short story ‘Keroncong Pembunuhan’ by Seno Gumira Ajidarma. The resources are Kurzgeschichte der jäger Gracchus using German and a short story ‘Keroncong Pembunuhan’ using Indonesian that are both taken from a short story collection. The research data are phrases, words or sentences of both short stories. Data were obtained by reading and recording techniques. Data were analyzed by descriptive qualitative techniques with the objective approach. The used reliability is interrater and intrarater reliability. The results are as follows: (1) The plot similarity i.e. timeline, number, density, and story ending. The differences are in the content of the plot and the settlement. (2) The similarities of character are the characteristic of main character who is arrogant, impulsive, and suspicious. Whereas the differences of the main character are impatient and arrogant. (3) Point of view of Der Jäger Gracchus is omniscient third person. “Keroncong Pembunuhan” uses first person viewpoint. (4) Background of “Der Jäger Gracchus” i.e. the port, Riva, Gracchus lodging, the black forest, room. Time setting is in daytime. Background of “Keroncong Pembunuhan” i.e. at a party, around the pool, terrace of Hotel 7th floor, and back of the orchestra. Time setting is at night. (4) The theme of both stories is the murder of a defender of the people's politician. He was killed by the in power government at that time.
