THE FIGURATIVE ELEMENT OF STAPLE IN GERMAN IN THE PROVERBS IN DUDEN REDEWENDUNGEN AND THEIR INDONESIAN EQUIVALENTS

Abstract

This research aims to describe (1) the similarities and differences of figurative elements of Staple in German proverbs and Indonesian proverbs and (2) the culture elements that cause the similarities and differences between German proverbs and Indonesian proverbs. This research is categorized as a qualitative descriptive research. The sources of this research is Duden Redewendungen, Kamus Peribahasa, Buku Lengkap Majas, and 3000 Peribahasa. The subject of this research is German proverbs and Indonesian proverbs. The object of this research are figurative elements of Staple. The data are acquaired by using observation attentively method with tapping techniques and note taking techniques. The instrument of this research is the human instruments. The test of data validation uses semantic validation. The reability test uses Intrarater and Interrater. The data are analyzed by using translational matching method. The results of this research show that (1) there are a German proverb and Indonesian proverb that have the similarity of figurative elements of Staple and its meaning; ten German and Indonesian proverbs that have the same meaning but Indonesian proverbs do not have figurative elements of Staple; three German and Indonesian proverbs that have the same meaning, but the figurative elements of Staple in Indonesian proverbs are different and (2) there are culture elements that cause the similarities and differences in German and Indonesian proverbs. Those elements are the mindset, eating and drinking habits, flora and fauna, nature, and religion.
