THE USE OF SONGS IN THE TEACHING OF LISTENING IN GERMAN

Abstract


This research aimed at (1) explaining song as a media to learn German, and (2) describing the advantages and disadvantages using Songs for teaching and learning German. (1) Steps of learning German listening skill by using song, (a) played “Morgens früh um sechs” song, (b) students listened and were given an incomplete song-text, (c) then played the song three times, (d) students filled the incomplete song-text, (e) students discussed the song, (f) teacher asked questions about the song, (g) teacher and students discussed the song and concluded together the results from discussions.(2) Song has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages, (a) learned more fun, interactive, and interesting, (b) decreasing tense and afraid to make mistake, (c) an appropriate media, (d) it’s easy to memorize. Disadvantages, (a) preparation needed to be adapted with the subject, (b) the class is uncondusive, (c) the student getting confused when they don’t understand about the subject before, (d) not all of the student want to sing.
