THE FIGURATIVE ELEMENT OF ˈHEADˈ (KOPF) IN THE GERMAN IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS AND THEIR EQUIVALENTS IN BAHASA INDONESIA

Abstract
The purposes of this reasearch are to describe (1) the similarities and differences of the figurative element ˈheadˈ (Kopf) between German idiomatic expressions and their equivalents in Bahasa Indonesia and (2) the cultural elements which lie behind the similarities and the differences of figurative element headˈ (Kopf) between German idiomatic expressions and their equivalents in Bahasa Indonesia. This research is a descriptive-qualitative research. The sources of this research are the books entitled 1000 idiomatische Redensarten Deutsch Mit Erklärungen und Beispielen by Dr. Dora Schulz and Dr. Heinz Griesbach and Kamus Ungkapan Bahasa Indonesia by J.S. Badudu. The object of this reasearch is German idiomatic expressions which contain figurative element of head. The data were collected by using read and note technique. The instrument of this research is human instrument. Intrarater and interrater were used in order to examine the validity in this research. Data were analyzed using padan translasional method. The results of the reasearch shows that (1) there are five German idiomatic expressions which have similarities of figurative element of ˈheadˈ (Kopf) and their meaning with Indonesian idiomatic expressions and 26 German idiomatic expressions which have differences of figurative element of head with Indonesian idiomatic expressions but with the same meaning, and (2) there are cultural elements which lie behind the similarities and differences of figurative element of ˈheadˈ (Kopf) between German idiomatic expressions and their equivalents in Bahasa Indonesia. Those cultural elements are mindset, tradition and custom of eating and drinking.
