THE MEANING OF VORSCHMACK IN JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE’S CHULD NAMEH BUCH DES PARADIESES: A RIFFATERRE SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS

Abstract


The objectives of this research are: (1) heuristic reading, (2) hermeunitic reading and indirect expression, (3) matrixes, model, variant, and 4) hypogram on poem Vorschmackin Chuld Nameh Buch des Paradiesesby Johann Wolfgang von GoetheSemiotic approach was used in this research by applying Riffatere semiotic theory. The objects of the research were lines and stanzas on poem Vorschmackin Chuld Nameh Buch des Paradiesesby Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.The method in collecting data were observation and repeatedly reading which used heuristic reading and hermeneutic reading. The instrument of the research was the researcher itself. Data were collected using observation and take a note technique. In validating data, the researcher used semantic validity and expert judgemenet validity. Reliability used in this research were intrarater and interrater reliability. The results of the reserach were (1) heuristic reading result: the poem uses many islamic term represented the mood of the poet. (2)hermeunitic reading result :the poem outlines Goethe’s religiosity of his belief on heaven; indirect expression: a. Meaning replacement, metonymy, simile, synecdoche, allegory, epic. b. Meaning deviation, ambiguity, contradiction, and nonsense. c. Meaning replacement was shown by rhyme and enjambment. (3) The matrixes in this poem is Goethe’s belief on heaven. The model is the wordParadies and Glauben”(heaven and belief). The variant is located on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stanzas. The first variant(das paradiese)or heaven is located on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stanzas. Second variant(glauben)or belief is located on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th stanzas. (4)potential hypogram in this poem based on Goethe’s belief on heaven. Actual hypogram on this poem are some titles which are inWest-östlicher Diwan (WÖD).
