THE FIGURE OF FRANZ KAFKA THROUGH JOSEF K. AS MAIN CHARACTER IN “ERZӒHLUNG DER PROZESS” : AN EXPRESSIVE APPROACH

Abstract

This study intended to describe (1) figure of Josef K as the main character, (2) biography of Franz Kafka, (3) a reflection of Franz Kafka through the figure of Josef K as the main character in Erzӓhlung Der Prozess written by Franz Kafka. The source of data were Erzӓhlung Der Prozess published by Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag GmBH in 2015 and the biography of Franz Kafka. The data is analyzed by descriptive qualitative technique. The results of this research are: (1) the figure of Josef K as the main character are as follow: hardworking, responsible, wise, compassionate, empathetic, confident, unyielding, full of anxiety and full of suspicion. Josef K is a dynamic, complex and closed character; has been partnerschaftlich relationships with Frau Grubach, Frӓulein Bürstner, Leni, Elsa, aides wife at the court office and Titorelli. The gegnerschaftlich relationship happened with Huld’s lawyer and Uncle Albert K. (2) Based on the biography of Franz Kafka, it is known that Kafka’s work experience and relationships with several women such as Felice Bauer, Milena Jensenska, Dora Diamant and family provided important factors in the writing of Erzӓhlung Der Prozess. (3) Franz Kafka’s family, companions, close friends, his school, work environment and residence family affected Kafka in his writing. Creative process of Franz Kafka in writing: preparation phase, deposition phase, inspiration phase and writing phase. The result showed that Josef K as the main character has similiar characteristics with Franz Kafka as the author. Both of them areharworking, compassionate, unyielding and anxious.
