PERBEDAAN PENERAPAN METODE PEMBELAJARAN INSIDE-OUTSIDE CIRCLE DENGAN TAKE AND GIVE TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR IPS SISWA KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 2 SEWON

Abstract


The research background was the availability of the Inside-Outside Circle and Take and Give methods that can improve students’ learning achievement but they have not been used in the Social Studies learning process at SMP Negeri 2 Sewon. This study aimed to find out whether or not there is a significant difference in Social Studies learning achievement through the application of the Inside-Outside Circle and Take and Give methods among Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sewon.
This was a quasi-experimental research using the pretest-posttest, nonequivalent multiple-group design. The research population comprised all Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sewon in the 2015/2016 academic year and the sample consisted of 29 students as experimental class 1 and 29 students as experimental class 2. The sample was selected by means of the simple random sampling technique. The data were collected by multiple choice tests. The instrument validity was assessed by the product moment and the reliability by Cronbach’s Alpha. The tests of analysis assumptions were tests of normality and homogeneity. The data analysis method was the independent sample t-test.
The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in Social Studies learning achievement through the application of the Inside-Outside Circle and Take and Give methods among Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sewon. The results of the independent sample t-test for Social Studies learning achievement from the posttest showed tobserved > ttable (1.903 > 1.672) with a significance value < 0.05, namely Sig (2-tailed) 0.032 < 0.05. Based on the results, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted so that it could be concluded that there was a significant difference in Social Studies learning achievement between experimental class 1 through the application of the Inside-Outside Circle method and experimental class 2 through the application of the Take and Give method. The application of the Take and Give method had a stronger effect on Social Studies learning achievement than that of the Inside-Outside Circle method.
