PERBEDAAN MOTIVASI DAN AKTIVITAS SISWA MENGGUNAKAN METODE COLLEGE BALL DENGAN METODE CARD SORT PADA PEMBELAJARAN IPS KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 2 GALUR

Abstract


This study aimed to find out: 1) the difference in the learning motivation between the students
using the College Ball learning method in Social Studies learning and those using the Card Sort
method, and 2) the difference in the learning activities between the students using the College Ball
learning method in Social Studies learning and those using the Card Sort method in Social Studies
learning in Grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Galur.
This was a quasi-experimental study using the pretest-posttest nonequivalent multiple-group
design. The population comprised of VIII Grades SMP Negeri 2 Galur, while the sampling of Grades
VIII B and VIII D. The sample was selected by simple random sampling technique. The data were
collected by questionnaires and observations. The instruments were assessed in terms of the content
and construct validities while the hypothesis testing used the t-test.
The results of the study showed that: 1) the students’ learning motivation in Social Studies
learning in experimental class 1 (College Ball) was higher than that in experimental class 2 (Card
Sort), and 2) the students’ learning activities in Social Studies learning in experimental class 1
(College Ball) were better than those in experimental class 2 (Card Sort). Based on the results, it can
be concluded that there is a significant difference between the College Ball method and the Card Sort
method in relation to the motivation and activities in Social Studies learning in Grade VIII of SMP
Negeri 2 Galur.
