PENGARUH KEMANDIRIAN BELAJAR DAN INTENSITAS PEMANFAATAN PERPUSTAKAAN SEKOLAH TERHADAP PRESTASI BELAJAR IPS SISWA KELAS VIII SMP N 2 DELANGGU KLATEN

Abstract


This study aims to find out: (1) the effect of the learning autonomy on the Social Studies learning achievement of Grade VIII students of SMPN 2 Delanggu, (2) the effect of the intensity of the use of the school library on their Social Studies learning achievement, and 3) the effect of the learning autonomy and the intensity of the use of the school library simultaneously on their Social Studies learning achievement.
This was an ex post facto study. The research population comprised Grade VIII students of SMPN 2 Delanggu, Klaten. The sample was selected by means of the proportional sampling technique. The data were collected by a questionnaire and documentation. The instrument validity was assessed by the product moment analysis and the reliability by Cronbach’s Alpha formula. The data analysis techniques were simple regression and multiple regression at a significance level of 0.05.
The results of the study are as follows. (1) There is a significant positive effect of the learning autonomy on the Social Studies learning achievement of Grade VIII students of SMPN 2 Delanggu, indicated by tobserved > ttable (2.075 > 1.98); therefore, the higher the student’s learning autonomy is, the higher the Social Studies learning achievement is. (2) There is a significant positive effect of the intensity of the use of the school library on their Social Studies learning achievement, indicated by tobserved > ttable (2.309 > 1.98); therefore, the higher the intensity of the use of the school library is, the higher the Social Studies learning achievement is. (3) There is a significant positive effect of the learning autonomy and the intensity of the use of the school library on their Social Studies learning achievement, indicated by Fobserved > Ftable (6.417 > 3.905); therefore, the higher the learning autonomy and the intensity of the use of the school library are, the higher the Social Studies learning achievement is. The learning autonomy and the intensity of the use of the school library give an effective contribution of 12.2% to the learning achievement; the remaining 87.8% is affected by other factors.
